India and Bangladesh reaffirmed their commitment to border peace and stability at the 57th Director General-Level Coordination Conference held in New Delhi from 8 to 11 June. Both sides agreed on enhanced patrols, intelligence sharing, and joint action against cross-border crime, strengthening bilateral cooperation and border management frameworks for future coordination.
The high-level conference was held at the Border Security Force Headquarters in New Delhi from 8 June to 11 June, serving as a crucial platform to assess the prevailing border situation and deliberate on matters of mutual concern related to border security and border management. Officials from both sides engaged in detailed discussions aimed at strengthening cooperative mechanisms and ensuring effective control of cross-border challenges.
During the deliberations, both delegations agreed to enhance coordinated patrol operations, improve surveillance mechanisms, strengthen real-time exchange of intelligence, and intensify joint efforts to combat trans-border criminal networks operating along the frontier. These measures were collectively identified as key priorities for reinforcing security and stability in border regions.
The Indian delegation was led by Director General of the Border Security Force Praveen Kumar, while the Bangladesh delegation was headed by Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui. The meeting underscored sustained institutional engagement between the two border guarding forces.
Following detailed discussions, both sides formally signed the Joint Record of Discussions, expressing confidence that the agreed decisions and understandings would significantly enhance bilateral cooperation. The outcome is expected to contribute to more effective border management frameworks and further strengthen friendly relations between the two neighbouring countries.
The conference concluded with both parties proposing that the next Director General-Level Conference be held in Dhaka at a mutually convenient time in November 2026, reinforcing the continuity of structured dialogue and coordinated border governance.
